FAQ

General information for applicants about the consular section.

Part I General Information

The Consular Section is a part of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Denmark. We deal with the consular issues.

Questions related to politics and requests for official comments on non-consular matters should be sent to the Russian Embassy in Denmark. Questions regarding the economic cooperation should be forwarded to the Trade Representation of the Russian Federation in Denmark.

A list of the most popular consular issues, some of our functions and important information will be mentioned below.

The Consular Section has a separate website. The main website of the Embassy is located at https://denmark.mid.ru. The main telephone of the Embassy or emergency telephone number do not provide info on consular matters or official comments without prior arrangement. Moreover, as a rule, an official inquiry, including questions from journalists, shall be forwarded to the Embassy in written form (either by email or in paper by any post service).

There is also an operational telephone of the consular section (+45 35 38 23 70), which provides consular information from 9 till 12:00.

Please note that since April 2019 the consular section has been located separately from the main building of the Embassy at a different address (Vestagervej 7, 2100, Copenhagen). The entrance to the consular section is carried out in a special manner, taking into account the availability of an entry in the appointment booking system. We reserve the right to cancel the appointment or refuse the right of entry depending on the situation.

Both the Embassy and the Consular Section are operating in accordance with the Russian laws and international agreements/conventions, which are applicable to the exercise of our functions.

Consular Section is open from Monday to Friday from 9:00 till 13:00.

We are closed during the Russian state holidays.

Dates of some of the Russian holidays may differ, but usually they are the following:

January 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 - New Year holidays;

January 7 - Christmas;

February 23 - Defender of the Fatherland Day;

March 8 - International Women's Day;

May 1 - Spring and Labor Day;

May 9 - Victory Day;

June 12 – National Day of Russia;

November 4 - National Unity Day.

II Appointment system

The appointment booking system operates separately from the website of the consular section.

The link to it is located on the main page of the site on the right side.

Electronic appointment system opens in the end of the month for the next month. For example, the appointment system for October will be opened in the end of September. If the system added you to the waiting list, it means that there is no free time slots left for this particular consular service (time slots have already been reserved by other people). Waiting list means that you will be added to the any free time slot, if somebody cancels the appointment. The system will usually not transfer you automatically to the new month; you need to make a new initial appointment as soon as the new period is opened.

Some consular questions do not require an appointment, but this does not apply to the issuance of visas. You need to apply for a visa by prior appointment.

If the visa issue is extremely urgent (for example, a major international sporting event in Russia, death of the relative, etc.) and you do not have enough time left, then write or call us and we will try to find a solution.

III Frequently asked questions about visas

The information about a certain visa type can be found in the relevant section of our website. In the case of some uncommon visa types or in doubt, please, contact us for assistance.

Please note that it takes time to issue any visa. Application processing time depends on the type of visa, the urgency of the issue and many other factors, incl. purely technical ones. Some visas cannot be urgent! We keep your passport while your application is being processed.

A passport with a visa must, by default, be picked up by the applicant himself with the receipt he got from us. Sometimes it can be a relative or a third person with a singed document that confirms the authority to take someone else's passport.

Documents for a visa must be submitted in person. Personal presence is mandatory for everyone except for children under 12 years old due to the necessity to collect the fingerprints. Passports cannot be sent by mail. Residents of the Faroe Islands and Greenland must also apply in person. Visa cannot be prolonged, one can get only a new visa. One can get a negative result of the processing of the visa application without explanations.

Payment of the consular fee for a visa is carried out on the same day the application is submitted to us at the cash desk of the consular section. The list of the consular fees can be found in the very end of this page. Bear in mind that visa fee depends on several factors, which are not mentioned in the table – citizenship, bilateral treaties with the country of nationality of the applicant, visa type and urgency.

In accordance with the decision of the President of the Russian Federation, from August 1, 2023, the practical launch of the system for issuing electronic visas will take place. Electronic visas will be valid for the whole territory of Russia.

At the same time, there is a list of foreign states whose citizens can get electronic visa, which currently includes 52 countries. The list is approved by the Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation dated October 6, 2020 No. 2571-r. This list will be expanded in the near future. As for today, Denmark is included to this list.

An electronic visa is issued on the basis of a foreign citizen's application filled in electronically on the specialized website of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs https://electronic-visa.kdmid.ru or through a mobile app which can be downloaded on the above mentioned website.

An application for electronic visa must be submitted via the website no later than 4 calendar days before the expected date of entry into the Russian Federation. A digital photograph of the face and a scan of the page with the data of the machine-readable passport of a foreign citizen must be attached to the application. No other documents are required to obtain e-visa.

In accordance with the current Russian legislation, the fee should be paid for a visa (via the same website).

An electronic visa entitles you to a single entry into the Russian Federation and stay in the Russian Federation with the following purposes:

1)      Guest (private) visit

2)      Business visit

3)      Tourism

4)      Participation in scientific, cultural, socio-political, economic, sports events and contacts, which have connection to such events.

The validity of the electronic visa is 60 days from the date of its issuance, but only with the permitted period of stay in Russia no more than 16 days from the date of entry into the territory of the Russian Federation.

Electronic visas are valid for entry into the Russian Federation and exit from the Russian Federation by air, pedestrian, road and water transport only through checkpoints across the state border of the Russian Federation, the list of which was approved by the order of the Government of the Russian Federation dated October 23, 2020. No. 2741-r. Currently, this list consists of 92 border checkpoints.

Transport companies and applicants can check that a foreign citizen has a valid unified electronic visa on a special automated website of the Russian Foreign Ministry at https://evisacheck.kdmid.ru. Information on the verification procedure will be available there from August, 01, 2023 in Russian and English.

NB! The “paper” visas are still issued by the Russian consulates. If electronic visa does not suits your trip to Russia (for example, you need multiple entry or you have a different purpose of your trip), one can apply for a “paper one”. Information about them is also posted on our website.
